Foods you need to avoid feeding your dogs

Just like human, dogs love food. Of course, dogs have a different nutrition requirement and you can’t feed them on human food. And there are varieties of brands for the dogs’ food. If you are too confused on which food is the best food for your dog, you should definitely consult with your vet.

But again, there are few items on the list of human food that can feed your dog right. Treat them with a happy meal and they are yours forever. And there are few items which are completely harmful to your dog. You need to be aware of it before you decide to treat your dog with human food. It begins with –

Onion and garlic contain a substance called thiosulphate, which can make your dog suffer from anemia. That’s why having both onions and garlic in a plate of food together could potentially cause problems. Vomiting, breathing problems, and weaknesses are all the symptoms of suffering from anemia.

Coffee, tea and other caffeinated items can create havoc inside them. Caffeine can be fatal because it contains the substance called methylxanthine. You should really avoid them and in case, you think they have consumed it, look out for symptoms like – fast breathing, restlessness, and muscles twitching.

Who doesn’t love chocolates?! Even our dog does and they can even smell your hiding spot. But it’s better to keep it out of their reach because chocolates contain theobromine, which can cause heart seizures, tremors, and deaths. It is found in all type of chocolates – white chocolate, dark chocolate and all kinds. Dark chocolate is more harmful than milk chocolate.

  1. Nuts

Does your dog drive you nuts? But you aren’t supposed to get ‘nuts’ for him including almonds, walnuts, and pecans. These products are rich in fats and oils. It can drive them crazy, for it can cause pancreatitis because of its high amounts of fat.

  1. Raw eggs and raw meat


Bacteria like salmonella or E. coli can cause food poisoning and they are present in the raw eggs and raw meat. Some people like to feed their dogs a raw diet, but this might cause problems to them. So it’s better to consult your vet first and then proceed further with eggs.

  1. Milk and other dairy products

milkSummer time could be tempting for you to treat your dogs with ice-cream. But dare not, because it can cause diarrhea and other digestive problems for your pups. Therefore, keep away milk and any other dairy products from them. It can also trigger allergies, which can lead to itching.

The chemical substance contained inside grapes that are harmful to the dogs is still unknown, but it is known that consuming grapes and raisins can cause their kidney failure. The symptoms may not show up in them. It can also cause vomiting or diarrhea in them.
