“Thank you” – A Dog Story

Everything was about to change in a family soon, little did they know that a small white Pomeranian would forever and ever stay in their hearts to play an important role in everybody’s lives. Family consisted of two young and little daughters and their parents. One fine day they decided to have another member along with them, so they went in search for her and finally when they entered a house they saw a big box filled with 9 Pomeranian, as soon as the lady tilted the box sideways a small tide of white wave started flowing here and there, those puppies enlightened every soul present in that room but one puppy came and slept on the feet of their eldest daughter of the family, within no time they decided to get her home. She was the 8th puppy and they named her Chintu. Days passed, soon days turned into months and months into years, there wasn’t a single moment where she hated the family she loved them equally without any discrimination, but she was turning old as well……

The eldest girl wasn’t able to express her emotions to Chintu when she got to know that she was suffering from cancer. Yes, Chintu had little time within her paws and she wanted to spend more time with all of them by now she was 13 years old. But the time had come where the family had to admit Chintu in hospital because her treatment couldn’t be done at home. The eldest daughter hugged Chintu tightly and kept her within her arms for a long time……that’s when she started talking her heart out with tears all over the place, then she began …

“I remember bringing you home, you were so small and cuddly with tiny paws and soft fur. You bounced around the room with eyes flashing and ears flopping. Occasionally you’d yell out a little yelp just to let me know that it’s your territory. Making a mess of the house and chewing everything became a passion and when I scolded, you just put your head down and looked at me with those innocent eyes as if you’d say “I’m sorry I won’t repeat it again but I’ll do it as soon as aren’t watching me”. As you got older you protected me by looking out of the window and barked at every creature who walked past our house. When I had tough days in my school you used to wait for me back at home wagging that bushy tail just to say, “Welcome home! I missed you!!”. I could always count on you for every little thing because you stood there right next to me when I needed someone. Whenever I sat down to read my books or started to watch my favorite TV program you would always be annoyed so your aim was so grab my attention. Unlike everybody else, you never asked for anything because you knew I would give you everything which you deserved in life! As you got older you moved around slowly. Then one day old age finally took its toll, and you couldn’t stand on that wobbling legs anymore. I used to kneel to pat your head, kept trying to make you feel young again. You looked up at me as if to say you were old and tired, and after all these years of not asking anything, you had to ask me one favor, with tears in my eyes I drove you one last time to vet. One last time you were lying next to me.  For some strange reason, you could stand up on your feet in animal hospital, perhaps it was your sense of pride.”

As the vet led you away, you stopped for an instant, turned back as if to say “Thank you for taking care of me” and I thought … “Thank you for taking care of me ……”
